“The best or nothing” – Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-Benz South Africa (MBSA) is fully owned by the global marque, Daimler AG. Mercedes-Benz South Africa supplies premium passenger cars and commercial vehicles. The company is unique in its scale of vehicle offering in South Africa and provides tailor-made mobility solutions for individual and fleet customers.

From Excel-reporting to professional Business Controlling and forecasting

Mercedes-Benz South Africa were using the world’s most pervasive BI tool – Microsoft Excel. All reporting was done through Excel and Powerpoint. By 2007, the Business Controlling division sought a more structured approach to hold all history, and set about finding a reliable solution. With a history for innovation and excellence, Mercedes-Benz South Africa needed an approach that would help their business users, and fit their process. As a forerunner in innovation and scalability, Jedox was the perfect match. After extensively validating Jedox, Mercedes-Benz South Africa proved several benefits.

First was that Jedox was easy. For a company with heterogeneous data in endless spreadsheets, and other systems using Excel-integrated Jedox was the logical step. Jedox’s intuitiveness meant Mercedes-Benz South Africa could implement Jedox Base independently without any obligation, and tailor their solution to their specific needs. Second, Jedox made low demands on the IT department, requiring little more than a server to run. Jedox’s technical flexibility meant Mercedes-Benz South Africa could safely accommodate changes. This was invaluable in 2010, when their SAP implementation finalized. Jedox’s built-in SAP connector meant instant and flexible access to all SAP data.

“Self-Service” implementation in only a few weeks

In 2007, Mercedes-Benz South Africa downloaded and implemented Jedox themselves using online learning tools and exploring the functionality. It took Mercedes-Benz South Africa just a few weeks to set up Jedox. The team quickly familiarized themselves and modelled their business, with a tool that proved easy to learn and use.

Once the Finance team had the solution running, their IT team helped make it enterprise-ready by providing an independent server and daily data backup. The Mercedes-Benz South Africa Finance team was soon able to create their own reports, forecasts and dashboards independently, at a time when the phrase “self-service BI” was yet to be widespread.

In 2010, Mercedes-Benz South Africa upgraded to the newest Jedox Premium which included the powerful built-in SAP connector and powerful enterprise features. This meant that all reporting and planning remained stable and consistent even while changing underlying operational source systems.

Easy to use planning solution for business users

Jedox provides Mercedes-Benz South Africa enduring results with reliable forecasts and on-tap reporting. Jedox is used by Business Controlling every day for bottom-up planning and forecasting for headcount and costs, monthly reporting on actuals, and cost-center and cost-element reporting. Jedox continues to provide Mercedes-Benz South Africa a high ROI, because it is simple for business users and requires almost no IT support. It just works. Jedox gives Mercedes-Benz South Africa flexible reporting that empowers Controlling with valuable history on-demand for making comparisons and forecasts easily.
